Superscript Generator (ⁿ) - Copy and Paste Exponents
Convert regular text and math expressions into Unicode superscripts. Use Smart Caret (^) Mode for exact
formula exponents (x^2 → x²) or Global Mode for tiny social media font styling
across Discord, Instagram and TikTok.

What Is Superscript Text?
Superscript text consists of shrunken characters raised above the standard baseline. Online superscript
conversion does not rely on HTML tags like or CSS properties such as
vertical-align: super. Instead, it substitutes standard keyboard letters and numbers with specific
Unicode symbols mapped within the Superscripts and Subscripts character block.
Because these converted glyphs are standard Unicode characters rather than styled text elements, you can copy and paste them directly into external apps, social media bios, messaging platforms and gaming profiles while retaining their raised appearance across all devices.
Smart Caret Mode vs. Global Mode
Our generator includes two operational modes to handle distinct user requirements without breaking text structures or mathematical expressions:
Smart Caret Mode for Mathematical & Scientific Formulas
In technical writing, algebra and chemistry, converting an entire string into superscript ruins base numbers
and equations. Smart Caret Mode addresses this by using the caret operator (^) to
target only designated exponents and powers.
For example, typing x^2 + 10^5 = y^(a+b) converts exclusively the characters following the caret
symbol, outputting x² + 10⁵ = y⁽ᵃ⁺ᵇ⁾ . This mode is optimal for:
- Polynomials, exponents, and algebraic variables (e.g.,
a^2 + b^2 = c^2→a² + b² = c²) - Scientific notation and orders of magnitude (e.g.,
10^-34→10⁻³⁴) - Chemical ion charges and mass numbers (e.g.,
SO4^2-→SO4²⁻)
^ turns into superscript.
To exit superscript mode and return to normal text, simply press Space (e.g.,
x^2 + y → x² + y).
Global Mode for Social Media & Formatting
Global Mode applies standard character substitution across your entire text string automatically. This mode turns normal sentences into continuous small superscript text (ˢᵐᵃˡˡ ᵗᵉˣᵗ) for aesthetic customization across digital platforms.
It is designed for creators, gamers and social media users looking to stand out on platforms like Discord, Instagram, TikTok, WhatsApp and X (Twitter).
Supported Superscript Unicode Characters & Fallbacks
The official Unicode standard includes native superscript code points for all digits (0–9), standard arithmetic
operators, and a subset of lowercase Latin characters (primarily found in the Superscripts and
Subscripts block U+2070–U+209F). However, native superscript representations for full
uppercase and select lowercase letters are missing from the official specification.
To provide continuous A–Z and a–z conversion without returning missing glyph boxes (tofu symbols), our tool maps native code points where available and substitutes visually congruent modifier characters and phonetic small-caps for missing letters.
| Character Set | Standard Output / Fallback Glyph Mapping | Unicode Status |
|---|---|---|
| Digits (0–9) | ⁰ ¹ ² ³ ⁴ ⁵ ⁶ ⁷ ⁸ ⁹ | Native Unicode Superscripts |
| Operators & Brackets | ⁺ ⁻ ⁼ ⁽ ⁾ | Native Unicode Superscripts |
| Lowercase Letters (a–z) | ᵃ ᵇ ᶜ ᵈ ᵉ ᶠ ᵍ ʰ ⁱ ʲ ᵏ ˡ ᵐ ⁿ ᵒ ᵖ q ʳ ˢ ᵗ ᵘ ᵛ ʷ ˣ ʸ ᶻ | Native (q uses modifier phi ᵠ fallback) |
| Uppercase Letters (A–Z) | ᴬ ᴮ ᶜ ᴰ ᴱ ᶠ ᴳ ᴴ ᴵ ᴶ ᴷ ᴸ ᴹ ᴺ ᴼ ᴾ ᑫ ᴿ ˢ ᵀ ᵁ ᵛ ᵂ ˣ ʸ ᶻ | Phonetic Modifiers & Small-Cap Fallbacks |
Frequently Asked Questions
Why do HTML tags fail when pasted into social media or messaging apps?
HTML tags () and CSS styles require browser rendering engines to display raised text.
Plain-text fields in social media bios, gaming profiles and messaging apps strip away HTML formatting. Our
Superscript Generator converts input into native Unicode code points that preserve raised
formatting across plain-text platforms like Discord, Instagram, TikTok and X.
How do I exit superscript mode while using Smart Caret Mode?
Simply press the Space key. Anything typed directly after a
caret (^) converts into superscript (e.g., x^2 → x²), but adding a
space breaks the exponent chain and resumes standard base text formatting (e.g., x^2 + y →
x² + y).
Why do some converted superscript letters look slightly different on certain devices?
The official Unicode standard does not provide native superscript code points for all 26 uppercase Latin letters. To prevent missing glyph errors (broken boxes), our tool utilizes visually identical phonetic modifier characters and small-cap fallbacks. While modern iOS, Android and Windows operating systems render these seamlessly, minor visual variations may occur depending on your device's default system font.
Can I use Smart Caret Mode for chemical equations and formulas?
Yes. Smart Caret Mode accurately formats ionic charges, mass numbers and chemical equations (such as
SO4^2- → SO4²⁻ or Fe^3+ → Fe³⁺) without altering
base elemental symbols or numbers.
